My professional life to date has been spent undertaking specialist roles within financial services and insurance industry. Through all that time I have wanted to write and entertain people. It is an ambition I have harboured since childhood and which I thought an English degree would help me attain.
I was born and raised in South Wales, Caerphilly, part of the world that has produced the music of Tom Jones, The Manic Street Preachers and The Stereophonics, and the terrifically exciting writing of Ken Follett. It is most famous for its 13th Century Norman castle - the second largest in Britain - and a type of cheese.
I have been a lifelong fan of Sci-Fi and Romcoms, weird combination I know, but then it never pays to be ordinary. My all-time favourite TV show is Friends and I still find myself watching it whenever it repeats. I think this is most probably because Jennifer Aniston is in every episode.
In terms of sport, I love anything with wheels and got into NASCAR when they started to air races live in the UK. That's when I got the idea for Trackside. I wanted to give American Stock Car Racing the Sidney Sheldon treatment. Hopefully I have hit the mark. I have tried to make the novel as authentic as possible, including technical detail along with the emotional drama. The American Dream is one of the most appealing ideas ever presented to humanity and I would love for that positivity to come to the fore again.
The Parliament Problem had a different genesis. I was fascinated with the idea of setting a sci-fi story part in Wales, using local surroundings, and part in London. It allowed for an interesting array of characters and some unique set-pieces. I wanted to hit Marvel levels of action with believable characters that could sustain a series. I don't think we have ever had a Welsh super-hero, so it seemed like a worthy ambition.
